Samantha Lane Band
with special guest Origami Llamas
(Musicians > December 19, 2008)
Third Saturday is moving to Friday in December, where we will be taking a field trip to Tangier in Los Feliz for the musical stylings of Samantha Lane and her band, with special guest Origami Llamas. The show starts at 9pm and tickets are $10 at the door.
Singer/songwriter Samantha Lane delivers an honest, soul searching story of fighting to keep a dying love alive and the ultimate realization of having to let go in her debut album "Find A Way".
Lane beautifully amalgamates soulful acoustic rock and bohemian soundscapes, garnering comparisons to Patti Griffin and Aimee Mann. Her song "Mother Mary" won Honorable Mention in the 2007 CMT Nashville Songwriter's Association International Contest.
Born in Geneva, Switzerland, raised in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and currently living in Los Angeles, Lane describes herself as "always having this wanderlust, this desire to get out into the world and experience it fully." Since a young age Lane recalls being deeply moved by music. In her adolescence she developed a voracious appetite for rock n' roll, blues, pop, country and old jazz. Lane cites the influences of such artists as Tori Amos, Sheryl Crow, and Ani DiFranco. She cultivated her voice singing lead in musicals and in various rock, jazz, funk, and folk bands.
Samantha is currently joined on stage by veteran Los Angeles-based musicians guitarist/vocalist Scott Pitts (Pistol Opera, Weathervane, Scottie, Komic Strip) and bassist Richard Guttenberg (Weathervane, Toby Semain Band). They both have performed for the masses from the west coast of California to the far east of Japan and everywhere in between. Samantha will also be joined in December by veteran musician/songwriter/producer Billy Stobo (Stobo, Golden Buddha) on cajon. They provide a solid backbone to Samantha's compelling music.
